Model-based TV identification

Vizio TV Model Number Year Guide

Vizio serial numbers are not treated as a dependable public manufacture-date code here. The supported workflow uses the TV model number, including tested model-era records and year letters that appear after a hyphen on recognized model formats.

  1. 1 Find the model number on the TV label or product records.
  2. 2 Enter the model in the Vizio model field shown by the decoder.
  3. 3 Treat the returned year as model-era context, not an exact unit manufacture date.

A model-year result identifies the product generation, not the factory date of one physical television. Keep the unit serial for registration and support, but enter the model number in this tool.

Why Vizio uses a model path

The current Vizio implementation explicitly requires a model number and does not decode arbitrary serials. It recognizes a verified legacy model-era record and supported post-hyphen year letters. An unrelated serial such as LSPATBH4026090 returns no result by itself.

What a Vizio model can reveal

Recognized model numbers can identify series, screen-size family, variant, and model year. That is useful for replacement and compatibility research, but it is different from identifying the exact month or day a unit was built.

Supported Vizio model evidence

Verified legacy model record ~ Verified local model record.
VW32L HDTV10A

Matches the repository-backed model-era lookup for September 2007.

Post-hyphen year letter ~ Model year, not unit date.
...-J## through ...-P##

Recognized letters map to model years 2021 through 2026 in the current rule.

Vizio serial number ~ No serial date decode.
Unit-specific identifier

Retained for registration and support; arbitrary serials are not decoded into dates.

Vizio model-year examples

Verified model-era fixture
VW32L HDTV10A

The existing regression returns September 2007 from the stored Vizio model record while explicitly stating that the serial format was not decoded.

Supported year-letter example
V505-J09

The current model rule reads J after the hyphen as model year 2021. The 09 portion is a variant, not a manufacture month.

Unsupported serial behavior
LSPATBH4026090

This serial alone returns no date. The model number is required instead of guessing from an unsupported serial pattern.

FAQ

Can this page decode a Vizio serial number? expand_more

No. The supported workflow is model-based because Vizio serial formats are not treated as reliably date-decodable here.

What does J mean in V505-J09? expand_more

The current supported model mapping treats J after the hyphen as model year 2021.

Does model year equal manufacture date? expand_more

No. It identifies the product generation, not the production date of one unit.

What if I only have the serial? expand_more

Use the rear label, box, receipt, or Vizio registration records to recover the model, then use Smart Lookup if needed.

Why did an arbitrary serial return no result? expand_more

That is intentional. The decoder refuses to invent a date from an unsupported Vizio serial.

Only have a Vizio serial?

Recover the model from the label, box, receipt, or registration records before attempting a model-year lookup.
